In making the series of western posters I have chosen to refrain from the use of line. To inform this process I often looked at the work of Matt Taylor. I learned much about his method from the big-heads skype discussion we had in college some months ago. I even purchased the set of brushes he recommended, which I now primarily use. Although admittedly for the western posters I only used the standard hard-edged default brush.
I have also started using a simple tip mentioned by Feng Zhu; zooming out the canvas dramatically to check the colour balance and composition of the image. Although seemingly obvious, I found this helps avoid irreversible issues when the piece is finished.
