Responsive: FilmDoo Creativity Competition

This fairly open brief requires entrants to create film posters. I created five designs based around the Western genre. I would usually be inclined to make use of line work, however in this instance I make primary use of shape and colouration to create more dynamic compositions.
Although Illustrator has far more advanced shape-based tools, I created the posters entirely in photoshop, using the polygonal lasso and quick brush movements. I found this far quicker and flexible than working in Illustrator, which requires a more considered exactness.
Unfortunately whilst completing the design for 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' I discovered a pre-existing poster on the internet which was uncannily similar. To avoid accusations of plagiarism, I abandoned the design.

As I have narrowed my genre to westerns, I would presume the primary audience of the work is indeed fans of westerns, who are predominantly men. Although I would not suggest my aesthetic is particularly masculine; they do not particularly emphasise the male role models of cowboys... except perhaps the design of 'Fistful of Dollars'.

Hopefully by broadening the designs to a study of light and location, they will therefore appeal to a greater range of viewers.
