Visual Communication: Studio Brief 3 (Final Portrait)

Due to Spielberg's passion for the works of Norman Rockwell, I thought it would be fitting to reference to a Rockwell composition. After some investigative scamps I decided that the 'Liberty Girl' was highly appropriate for the use of dynamic movement and opportunity to saturate the image with objects associated with Spielberg's career.

 To begin, I created a loose line drawing in black fine-liner.

Using a light box I created a second layer of orange line-work to draw attention to various details and to introduce some purposely mis-registered detailing.

The final layer of shadow was created in light blue ink.

By combining these layers in photoshop I was able to create the image below which I am most content with.

The process went thus;

.Scanned each of the A2 sheets
.Removed exterior information, multiply
.Selected and replicated the channels of the ink layer, lock the bitmap
.Modified the ink layer appropriately
.Added a second colour layer underneath the ink for highlighting tones
.Introduced thicker pen lines to pull out features such as the arms, camera etc
.Added vector background
