Visual Communication: Studio Brief 1 (Initial Research)

Having consulted the internet it is clear that acts such as bum grabbing clearly a form of sexual harassment.

Curiously, having interviewed several female peers, they regard the issue in somewhat laissez-faire attitude. They have come to expect grabbing and groping in certain situations.

To kick-start some visual research I repetitively drew grasping hands (referring to my own right hand).

Next, I saturated my internet history with pictures of buttocks, as I thought it best not to go around and study genuine articles. I quickly realised how varied bottom clothing could be, with a diverse amount of pants, trousers, skirts etc.

Finally, I consulted several articles on the subject. A use of search engine reveals how wide-spread the culture of public groping has become internationally.

- A particularly striking report which highlights the sheer scope of physical harassment which plagues student social life.

Applying the recently investigated methods of composition in OUIL404, I created nine rough ideas of how to feature hands in a menacing image.

This was followed by the use of dip-pen and biro drawings. I have rarely used dip pens, and I am now ashamed for having not tried them more frequently, because of how elegently they create flowing linear forms.

I combined a third media of Stabilo fine-liner to add colouration, which I think makes the hand somewhat more three-dimensional.
