Studio Brief 2 - Your Initial Brief (Photoshop)

For this particular brief we were given the opportunity to channel the skills learned during the Photoshop workshops. As a requirement we had to use the A5 photocopies created during our initial brief, as my designs had been quite minimal I was limited to what I could accomplish without drowning out the imagery. I opted to suggest a worn and abused poster aesthetic, reminiscent of the posters I had seen in Berlin.

I found that the above design was the most successful due to the vibrant colouring as some other attempts appeared perhaps a tad too washed out.

In reflection I must say that I quite displeased the the over-all quality of these illustrations. I had tried not to overwhelm the symbolic designs, but I think the excessive effects distracts from the meaning rather than supporting it.

Each image should be distinctive, but the use of similar effects makes them quite indifferent, perhaps given the opportunity to attempt this brief again I would broaden my exploration of texture and use it to compliment the design rather than using it as an 'after effect'.
