Visual Skills: Studio Brief 4 (Final)

Having completed the full illustration I addressed the issue of placement within the studio. The design is just over two metres in length, which has caused some amount of difficulty due to the limited wall space. However the piece is conveniently thin and I have broken the design down into five composite strips. These strips are easily assembled, thus allowing me to experiment in terms of composition within the studio.

In the above image it is evident that dramatic measures are required to view the piece on a horizontal surface. Though it was no serious consideration to showcase the final piece in that format, it was required to remain flat whilst the ink dried and I completed the drawing process. Thankfully the studio has a mezzanine floor, which I used to peer down at the full piece and get a holistic perspective.

In this composition I placed the mechanical segments above the potential viewer, I rather think this adds a weight of imposition, adding a sense of mass and size to the technological monstrosity leading down to a condensed can.

Finally, here the image has been placed on a traditionally vertical wall space, the limited room has resulted in the bottom segment being lowered to a relatively awkward position.

This was the final positioning that I used, though the over-head arrangement was striking it lost the sense of scale that a standard vertical spacing design has.

I was most pleased with the final design, the dynamic format harmoniously supports the message.

Below is the a full scan of the final piece, unfortunately due to size constraints I had to devide the image into two halves for the blog.
