I had refrained from making my brief over-complicated in terms of deliverables, however there were some points that needed clarification.
To answer the aforementioned questions:
. The informative tone will appear as the minimal information present on each card; the name of the aviator and their historical achievement.
. I will find a comfortable mid-ground between realism and characterisation using ligne claire
. Jacks will compromise of plane engineers or designers
. The back imagery of the cards will be a highly detailed pattern informed by studies of plane engines
. Numbered cards will remain blank as picture cards already demand at least 25 fully rendered illustrations, which I would suggest is sufficient work
. I will include two jokers as is normal with standard decks
During this session we also discussed our project progress in small groups. Using boards that condensed imagery from our sketchbooks and blogs we described our projects and exchanged constructive criticism.
The group suggested I confer with James, the print room technician in regard to printing a deck of cards, as well as checking third parties that specialise in printing cards.
It was also recommended that I assign aviators to specific suits. For example Amelia Earhart would be the Queen of Hearts due to the word play, clubs then would more likely be military pilots and so on
