Applied Illustration: Ligne Claire

During this project I wish to practice my application of the process described as 'ligne claire'. I would suggest that I have naturally being moving towards this sort of aesthetic for sometime, but it was only recently that I discovered there was a name for it.

Hergé

One of my strongest influences in this regard is the work of Hergé. Primarily, it is the combination of technical accuracy and characterisation that I wish to improve upon. I frequently avoid the application of characters within my work due to being poorly aquatinted with the rules of anatomy.
Obviously, the only solution is improvement through study.

The trouble, I find is locating the perfect balance of realism and imaginative characterisation.
In order to resolve this I redrew a female RAF crew member with varied features... The results are inconclusive.
